A food worker at a Taco Bell restaurant in Niagara Falls has been diagnosed with hepatitis A. The Niagara County Health Department says the virus was confirmed in a worker at the Taco Bell at 7300 Niagara Falls Boulevard. Anyone who got food at that location or used the restroom between Nov. 21 and Dec. 1 is urged to get a free vaccine at the Doris W. Jones Family Resource Building, 3001 Ninth Street, Thursday or Friday between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.
Those who visited the Taco Bell between Nov. 13 and 20 may also be at risk, but the vaccine will no longer protect them from this specific exposure risk. Those people are asked to simply look out for any symptoms.
Public Health Director Daniel Stapleton says there is a concern anytime someone who handles food for many people has Hepatitis.
"We're not trying to worry people, but we do want them to know this is serious and they should come to the clinic to be protected," Stapleton said.
Anyone who displays symptoms suggestive of hepatitis A is advised to seek medical attention. Those symptoms can include fever, fatigue, nausea, loss of appetite and abdominal pain.
Those who already have been vaccinated against hepatitis A or have previously had the infection do not need to worry about exposure.
