Buffalo Bills fans are becoming known for their generosity.
Two years ago, fans donated over $400,000 dollars to Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton after Dalton’s last second touchdown pass on the last day of the regular season vaulted the Bills into the playoffs for the first time in nearly two decades.
Now, fans are honoring one of their own, superfan Ezra “Pancho Billa” Castro, by donating to the Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center. Castro passed away Tuesday after battling stage 4 cancer.
More than $5,000 has already been donated to Roswell in Castro's name.
“It’s amazing,” said Roswell Park Alliance Foundation chairman Jim Newman. “We were not expecting this. Certainly we were saddened by the news of his death, and as a Buffalo sports fan, we followed his story as a cancer warrior.”
Newman said the donations will go to funding clinical trials that deal with the science of curing cancer.
“There are many types of different cures and many different types of treatments, and I think we’ll go where the needs and rewards will be the greatest.”
Newman did not say exactly where the funding will go but he said it would go to more than one set of clinical trials.
