Opioid campaign uses former addicts to help current ones

MHPC

A new campaign is underway by Mental Health PEER Connection to help more people recover from opioids and other addictive substances.

Addict 2 Addict Team Leader Gretchen Vinson says  A-2-A is unique because everyone who works for the program, including Vinson, is a recovering addict.

"We know how hard it is. We know what it's like to be struggling and feel like it's just not going to happen for you. We're here to let people know that recovery is possible and that it can happen,"  Vison said.

PEER Connection also offers support to families.

"That the parents and loved ones can go to so that they can, with each other, be of support and learn about the disease of addiction. And how it does effect the family. And how family members need to seek out their own recovery and their own help," Vinson said.

Addict 2 Addict and Family 2 Family are free and VInson she says no one is turned away. Help is available 24/7 by calling 836-2726.
