Pediatric urgent care now open in OP

MASH Urgent Care and UBMD Pediatrics are joining forces to create a first-of-its kind partnership, bringing the specialists from Women & Children's Hospital to an urgent care setting. Children's Fast Track now provides hospital pediatricians and emergency room-quality medical care to infants, toddlers, young children and adolescents up to age 21 at the MASH Urgent Care location on Southwestern Boulevard in Orchard Park. MASH CEO Dr. Mark Pundt said the Children's Hospital physicians will be on site every day of the year, every day of the week from 9 a.m.-9 p.m.

"They do shifts with us at the Orchard Park site and they're actually able to evaluate and treat higher-end, more acute cases of children's illnesses and injuries and also be a direct hook-up to the different specialists at Women & Children's Hospital should specialty services be needed," Pundt said.

He said the Orchard Park location expects to be able to serve 25 to 30 pediatric patients a day, in addition to the usual 40 adult patients MASH sees in a day.

Pundt said this is a combination of services found nowhere else in Western New York and will help reduce the need to treat non-emergency medical cases in hospital emergency rooms. He said the partners are also considering a similar location in the northtowns and possible 24-hour operations.
