"Cancer: Emperor of All Maladies," a three-part, six-hour film, airs this week on PBS and premieres Monday at 9 p.m. on WNED-TV. For one local doctor, the film reflects the improved realities for those diagnosed with cancer.
"Traditionally, cancer, as a lot of people refer to it as the 'c-word,' has been taboo," said Dr. Nikhil Khushalani, Section Chief for Soft Tissue and Melanoma and Director of the IL-2 Program at Roswell Park Cancer Institute.
"I think getting that out into the open, saying it is not an automatic death sentence at this point in time should be recognized."
