Residents in Northern Erie and Niagara Counties will find it easier now to be cared for by Roswell Park. As WBFO's Chris Caya reports, the cancer institute has opened a new satellite location in Wheatfield near the Niagara Falls International Airport.
Roswell is now open a mile from the airport on Williams Road in the Summit HealthPlex across from the Mall. The site has a staff of 10 Roswell Park physicians, a nurse practitioner and other clinical team members, according to Roswell Park Cancer Institute President and CEO Dr. Donald Trump.
"It's an undertaking to make it more convenient for patients north of Roswell Park to bring multi-disciplinary care to more and more people in our region," said Trump.
The focus of the new location is providing patients with both initial consultations and follow-up care.
Trump says unfortunately there's "there’s a real need for cancer services in Niagara County". Between 1995 and 2009, the number of new cancer cases grew by eight percent.
"It's designed primarily as a facility for initial contact for individuals have the need for consultation," noted Trump.
