Senator Kirsten Gillibrand and Congressman Brian Higgins say there needs to be further review before more liquid radioactive waste is transported over the Peace Bridge into New York State by tractor trailer.

The previous review only evaluated solid material. Over 150 shipments are planned to be trucked from Canada through New York State between December and January 2018. The nuclear waste will travel 1,100 miles to the Energy Department's Savannah River site in South Carolina.

The lawmakers have asked the U.S. Energy Department for a new environmental impact statement.
