The Canisius College Faculty Senate has formally voted "no confidence" in President John Hurley and the Board of Trustees.
The campus newspaper, The Griffin, confirmed that the resolution passed by an 11-5 vote.
The vote follows this week's announcement that Canisius is facing a $20 million budget deficit, and that will mean the layoffs of 23 full-time faculty members and 71 other staff members. Pay cuts are also planned for staffers making $65,000 or more per year.
A resolution states that the vote comes from violations of the letter and the spirit of procedures laid out in the Faculty Handbook and American Association of University Professors guidelines in the deliberations about the proposed budget cuts initiated July 16, even given the extenuating circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic.
A protest sit-in is scheduled for 4 p.m. Thursday in front of the campus' Bagen Hall.
