Buffalo State College has gained recognition as one of the "Best Bang for the Bucks Colleges in the Northeast."
The list was developed by Washington Monthly magazine, which ranks schools on how well they help students attain marketable degrees at affordable prices. Buffalo State ranked 49th out of 363 listed institutions and is the only four-year Western New York college to make the list.
The school also joined the top 100 institutions in the magazine’s master’s universities category, ranking 76th nationally out of 606.
Buffalo State President Katherine Conway-Turner said Washington Monthly’s overall college rankings rate schools based on their contributions to the public good in three broad categories: social mobility (recruiting and graduating non-wealthy students), research (producing cutting-edge scholarship) and service (encouraging students to give something back to their country).
“We take tremendous pride in meeting students where they are—no matter their background, academic or socioeconomic status—and providing support and opportunities to believe in a better future, to be inspired by our accomplished faculty, and to achieve success personally and professionally,” she said.
The fall semester began Monday and welcomed about 1,700 freshmen at Buff State.
