Buffalo School Board members will meet in a special session Tuesday to vote on naming Dr. Kriner Cash as the district's next superintendent.
In a Sunday announcement, Board President James Sampson called for the special meeting to take place at noon Tuesday at City Hall.
"Everything that I do will be focused on children, focused on what is best for children. I have no other agendas," stated Dr. Kriner Cash.
Cash, the former superintendent of schools in Memphis, Tennessee, emerged as the top candidate to lead the troubled Buffalo district. His ascendancy came as a surprise after members of the School Board's majority voiced their intention to seek a local educator to become the next superintendent.
The school board presented Cash to the public at session last Thursday in Buffalo. He answered questions on a variety of topics and appeared to be well received by community members that included, parents, teachers and administrators.
"Everything that I do will be focused on children, focused on what is best for children. I have no other agendas," stated Dr. Cash.
Recent superintendents who were recruited from outside of Buffalo, including Dr. James Williams and Dr. Pamela Brown, arrived with promises to change the district's fortunes only to leave after tumultuous tenures.
It appears that a majority of board members approve of Dr. Cash, who has a reputation as a reformer. His appointment would be contingent upon receiving the appropriate New York State certification.
