Press Pass: The education formula at Grabiarz School

A Buffalo Public School with a high poverty rate that is following its own formula which includes the Common Core and is achieving some success. In this week's Press Pass conversation, WBFO's Eileen Buckley talks with Buffalo News Education Reporter Tiffany Lankes about her upcoming featured article for 'How to Fix Buffalo Schools' that will focus on the Grabiarz School of Excellence Public School 79.

"It came out of two schools that, like we see now, were struggling to meet state standards," said Lankes. "They looked at the data they were dealing with, and when the school opened in 2011, hit the ground running. There's a culture of high expectations."

Lankes said the school really reinforces to the students routines and structures that eliminates behavior issues.

"One of the interesting things about the school, it's very successful and it does have a unique population because it is one of the highest poverty schools in the district. 94% of the students qualify for free or reduced lunch," noted Lankes.
