Buffalo school nurses see little impact from new respiratory virus

WBFO News photo by Eileen Buckley

Despite a big spike in the number of children being treated for a possible respiratory virus at Women and Children's Hospital in Buffalo, there appears to be no major effects in the Buffalo Public School District.Buffalo Schools Health Related Services Director Assunta Ventresca tells WBFO News her nursing staff reports no major attendance drop due to illness related to the Entero-virus spreading across the country.

"Our students are doing well," said Ventresca.  "They're doing their big push (focusing on) prevention. Wash your hands often.  Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.  They've been doing a lot of health education and monitoring."

Last week, the school district sent a letter home notifying parents to watch for possible respiratory symptoms.

The School District has hand sanitizers in every classroom.  Those were installed several years ago and remain a part of classroom hygiene.
