Larry Quinn says it's time to do things 'differently' in city schools

Larry Quinn is one of the new Buffalo Board of Education members and makes up the new majority on the board. Quinn said Wednesday he is ready to support former Erie 1 BOCES superintendent Don Ogilvie as the district's new interim superintendent.  In a WBFO Focus on Education interview, Quinn says it is time for the district to do things differently.

"Clearly doing the same thing over and over again for the last 25 years, that have produced these terrible results for children, is not the way to approach this," said Quinn.

Quinn said he belies Ogilvie will be able to bring new management to the district to address administrative and teaching staffing issues.  Quinn believes there will be "immediate results."

As for the issue of a divided board between the new majority verses the minority, Quinn said it's time to move forward.

"I think the adult problems, to me are secondary. I really don't care about people's feelings on the board, some of the concerns that keep getting voiced about taking care of adults -- so the challenge how do we make it better for children and how do we not get so caught up in the adult issues which I think have prevailed for so long in the district," said Quinn.
