Teacher evaluation plan approved in Hamburg

Educators and administrators in Hamburg have approved a new teacher evaluation plan, one of the last districts in the state to do so. By a vote of 220 to 51, teachers in the districts signed off on the plan Thursday after an agreement was reached in March. School Board members gave their seal of approval Friday morning.

The Hamburg Central School District was one of only four districts statewide that failed to meet a state deadline to have an evaluation plan ready in January. New York City is one of the other three.

The state requires an evaluation system in order for a district to receive state aid. The district faced a loss of $450,000 in state aid in March, but the aid was delivered because of a lawsuit filed by parents in New York City.

If an agreement was not in place by the end of May, the state would have imposed its own. The State Education Department still must approve the Hamburg plan.
