Vowing to do more with less, Buffalo Schools Superintendent Pamela Brown says she is reorganizing the district, starting at the top. The superintendent says the reorganization of the district's central staff will create a support structure to help school buildings succeed. Brown says she wants to create the "Buffalo Way" to academic success.
The school boss says that central staff will be shuffled and some people will undoubtedly lose their jobs since the plan projects a saving of $2.5 million in the shuffle.
The plan re-creates the position of deputy superintendent to do much of the day-to-day management. Brown says she has a vision of where the district is going.
"Provide a world-class education for every child. I brought with me five core beliefs, the first of which is every child can and must have a world-class education. Great leaders and teachers make schools thrive. Victory is won in the classroom," Brown says.
Brown has brought in consultant Mary Guinn to be interim deputy and find the permanent deputy. The goal is to find that person and have the new deputy in place by July 1 so the summer can be spent in reorganizations.
