A month-long investigation into dogfighting and drug dealing by the Erie County Sheriff's Office has resulted in the arrest of Douglas Williams, 43, of Buffalo.
Williams was arrested following a traffic stop in Clarence Friday and the execution of a search warrant at Williams' residence on Bailey Avenue.
Deputies said, during the traffic stop, two American Bull Terriers believed to be enroute to his residence for dogfighting were rescued and five additional dogs showing signs of abuse were taken in after the search at his residence. They said a loaded 9mm handgun, drugs and drug paraphernalia were also seized during the search.
Williams faces five felony charges plus a misdemeanor as a result. He was arraigned Saturday and released after posting $40,000 bail.
He is already on parole for involvement in a violent home invasion and has previous convictions for aggravated cruelty to animals and firearm possession.
