Thruway shut down for menacing motorist

A section of the I-90 was closed Wednesday morning due to a confrontation between police and a motorist.

Westbound traffic was diverted between Hamburg Exit 57 to Silver Creek Exit 58, while the highway was shut down eastbound from Silver Creek to Eden-Angola exit 57A.

Police say a vehicle believed to have been involved in a menacing incident involving a shotgun was pulled over by state police on the Thruway in the town of Hanover at around 9:30 a.m. and two troopers were injured when a confrontation developed with the suspect, who resisted arrest.

Several weapons and a suspicious package were discovered in the vehicle. The State Police Bomb Disposal Unit was called in and the Thruway remained closed while the investigation continued.
