A 60- year-old man was arraigned in State Supreme Court Thursday morning on one count of second-degree murder for the killing of a young woman 42 years ago.
In February of 1978, 19-year-old Linda Tschari was found stabbed to death inside of a carriage house on Pooley Place in the City of Buffalo.
Erie County District Attorney John Flynn announced Thursday John Sauberan has been indicted for the murder.
Flynn called Sauberan a transient who has spent time in the southeastern and northwestern parts of the country over the last four decades.
He said Sauberan lived in the area of Elmwood and Bird avenues in 1978 and his office will be able to prove, at trial, that Sauberan was in the vicinity of Pooley Place during the time in question.
Local law enforcement was able to match the DNA found at the scene of the crime with DNA Sauberan had submitted after a 2008 arrest in Oregon. Sauberan has been in custody since early March where he pleaded not guilty in Buffalo City Court.
Sauberan remains held without bail.
