Woman who alleges Rick James raped her when she was 15 suing for $50 million

A woman who says she was raped by late Buffalo R&B singer Rick James when she was 15 years old is suing his estate for $50 million in damages. The unidentified plaintiff failed the lawsuit Thursday under the Child Victims Act, according to a report in The Buffalo News.

The woman says she was living in a group home on Richmond Avenue in 1979 when James raped her in a bedroom. The lawsuit claims he was visiting some adults who ran the home when the alleged rape occurred. She says when she resisted, the "Superfreak" singer threatened her, saying "Shut up and quit moving or I'll cut you." The plaintiff claims she suffered physical, emotional, and psychological issues, as a result.

James died in 2004 and is buried in Buffalo's Forest Lawn Cemetery.
