City's latest fatal shooting is third in four days

A 27-year-old Buffalo man is dead following a shooting on Freund Street, the latest victim in a string of fatal shootings that have happened in the city in recent days. The shooting occured just after 6 p.m. Monday on the first block of Freund. The victim was transported to ECMC, where he died. His name has not been released.

Monday's killing is the third deadly shooting in four days in Buffalo. A 16-year-old male was killed by gunfire last Friday on Oakmont Street and a 25-year-old man was fatally shot Saturday on Greenwood Place.

Buffalo Police captain Jeff Rinaldo said Monday the department has received numerous tips in the death of the teenager and there are persons of interest in both cases. Rinaldo said there is no one reason why more violent acts are committed in the summertime and there is no one solution to addeess it.

"People are out and about. People that haven't seen one another, whether there's disputes being held on social media. Social media, unfortunately, drives a lot of events. We plan for that. We deal with that. Do I think that people try to catch up on their bad deeds because the weather is better? No," Rinaldo said.

Anyone with information about any of the shootings is asked to call or text the city's confidential tipline at 847-2255.
