North Tonawanda couple pleads guilty to animal cruelty

North Tonawanda Police Department
The pup is much healthier today (l) than when found in May.

The former owners of an emaciated dog in North Tonawanda have pleaded guilty to animal cruelty.

North Tonawanda Animal Cruelty Officer Rick Salisbury rescued the female dog in early May "thanks to an anonymous complaint.

The tan-and-black mix - who has since been adopted by another family - was in just rough shape, her condition required "long-term hospitalization and physical therapy."

Joseph Barwick, 40, and Dorothy Adama, 47, pleaded guilty in North Tonawanda City Court Thursday and will be back for sentencing Sept. 5.
