Two Buffalo police officers injured by ATV driver

Buffalo Police Department

Two Buffalo police officers were hospitalized Sunday after being struck by a man driving erratically on an ATV.

Capt. Jeff Rinaldo said the officers were on bike patrol for the Juneteenth Festival around 5:30 p.m. Sunday when they tried to stop an ATV driver and were run over. One of the officers was dragged several feet.

The incident happened in the vicinity of  Fillmore Avenue and Best Street. The officers were taken to the Erie County Medical Center where both were treated for non-life threatening injuries. They have since been released from the hospital.

Police say the driver of the ATV, Cornelius Caddele, 40, of Buffalo was taken into custody and was charged with assault, reckless endangerment, obstruction and vehicle & traffic violations.

The ATV was impounded.
