Bartolomei named UB's permanent police chief

University at Buffalo

The University at Buffalo has named its interim police chief as its permanent police chief.

Chris Bartolomei has been assistant chief for the past five years and was named interim last January after the retirement of Chief Gerald Schoenle.

Bartolomei's selection follows a nationwide search for the post. UB Vice President for Finance and Administration Laura Hubbard says his extensive experience and proven record of implementing best practices made him the clear choice.

“He is focused on implementing 21st-century policing practices emphasizing innovation, creativity and community engagement at all levels of the department," Hubbard said. “Moreover, Chris will ensure that positive, culturally competent police-student interactions will be at the core of the UB’s community policing strategy.”

Bartolomei has been on the UB police force since joining as a police officer in 1996. He was promoted to lieutenant in 2007 and became assistant chief of patrol operations in 2010 before being named assistant chief in 2013.
