A Town of Tonawanda man has been sentenced to prison for stealing nearly $20,000 from the local volunteer fire company where he worked.
The Erie County District Attorney's Office says Timothy Kler, 36, has been sentenced to 3½-7 years in prison. He is also being required to pay back nearly $15,000 in restitution.
In 2017, Kler was treasurer of the River Road Volunteer Fire Company. However, the DA says he used that position to pocket cash from fundraisers and forged numerous checks.
Kler pleaded guilty to grand larceny in the third degree, the highest charge in the indictment, last month.
