Cheektowaga man receives 6 years for killing bicyclist

Facebook

A Cheektowaga man has been sentenced in the hit-and-run crash that killed a bicyclist.

The Erie County District Attorney's Office says Paul Hintermeier, 37, has been sentenced in State Supreme Court to six years in prison.

It was August 11, 2017 when Hintermeier was driving along Richard Drive around midnight with a blood alcohol content of 0.16, twice the legal limit. Authorities say he ran a stop sign as he turned onto Shanley Street, striking Damian Garra, 18. Garra, also of Cheektowaga, later died.

In January, Hintermeier pleaded guilty to vehicular manslaughter in the second degree and leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death.
