New York State Police have arrested two Orleans County Sheriff deputies for double-dipping.
Sgt. Dean Covis of Albion and deputy Thomas Marano of Brockport were each charged with grand larceny in the third degree and falsifying business records in the first degree.
State Police say an investigation conducted by its Major Crimes Unit revealed that between November 2013 and January 2015, Covis and Marano received payments from a private company they worked security for, after filing false time sheets at the Orleans County Sheriff's Office.
Genesee County District Attorney Lawrence Friedman has been assigned as a Special Prosecutor in this matter.
Covis and Marano were arraigned before Niagara County Court Judge Sara Sheldon in Orleans County Court Wednesday. The two deputies were released on their own recognizance.
