U.S. citizen arrested at Peace Bridge for possession of drugs and weapon

U.S Customs and Border Protection

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers arrested a U-S citizen at the Peace Bridge on Saturday, charging him with possession of an unlicensed loaded handgun and drugs.

CBP officers pulled over the car of a 20-year-old man after he made a wrong turn onto the bridge. They noticed a marijuana smell and detained the man for further examination.

It was then that a loaded .40 calibur handgun was found under the drivers seat, plus "personal use" quantities of marijuana and cocaine.

“CBP officers are trained to identify the many signs that call for careful inspection of suspicious individuals arriving at the U.S. border," said Acting Port Director Cary Frieling. “The transportation of illegal guns and drugs over the U.S. border will always be prosecuted to the fullest extent of our laws.”

The man, who was not identified, was turned over to Buffalo Police, along with the drugs, handgun, and 10 rounds of ammunition.

Avery began his broadcasting career as a disc jockey for WRUB, the University at Buffalo’s student-run radio station.
