Cheektowaga Police are asking the public to contact them if they fell prey to a Wanda Avenue man who has been impersonating a police officer.
It began Friday night. Police say 26-year-old Corey Shepard showed up on a call of a reckless driver said to have been called in by an off-duty Buffalo Police officer. The Cheektowaga officer handling the call reported Shepard drove up to the scene wearing a dark police uniform, duty gun belt, handgun and ballistic vest with the word “POLICE” on it.
Shepard reportedly identified himself as a Buffalo Police officer and began talking with the Cheektowaga officer. The two parted eventually ways after Shepard showed the officer a badge and identification card.
However, a review of the Cheektowaga officer's dash camera video and further investigation revealed Shepard was neither a police officer nor a security guard.
When Shepard was arrested at his residence, police say they found numerous police-related items and equipment, including stolen parking tickets, a fake taser and numerous fake police badges and IDs. Shepard was arraigned by Judge Dennis Gorski, who released him on $1,000.00 cash bail.
Cheektowaga Police are asking anyone who believes Shepard victimized them to call 686-3544 during the day or 686-3508 after 4 p.m.
