Buffalo Police cell block attendant indicted

A Buffalo Police Department cell block attendant has been indicted in connection with a violation of the civil rights of a suspect in custody.A federal grand jury returned a charge against 26-year-old Matthew Jaskula of Buffalo, one count of willful deprivation of rights under color of law resulting in bodily injury.

On May 19, a suspect was arrested and taken to police headquarters by two Buffalo police officers. They were met by Jaskula and another cell block attendant.

Under a criminal complaint, Jaskula grabbed the suspect and pushed his face onto the floor. The victim was put into a restraint chair for nearly two hours, then taken to Erie County Medical Center, where he was diagnosed with a broken nose and a laceration.

If convicted, Jaskula could face 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
