Drug seizure called one of the largest in U.S. history

Eileen Buckley/WBFO News

U.S. Attorney William Hochul on Wednesday announced what he called one of the largest drug seizures in the nation's history.  The bust included fentanyl, heroin and cocaine, all of which were intended for distribution in the Buffalo-Niagara region.

The Mexican drugs were shipped from California, some through a seafood warehouse. John Flickenger, the head of the DEA in Buffalo, says it was a "significant" seizure.

"Eight kilos of fentanyl were seized by the Buffalo Police Department," said Flickenger. "It's one of the top five seizures of fentanyl in the U.S. ever."

The drugs are worth well over $3.5 million. Buffalo Police discovered some of the narcotics at a home at 98 Folger Street in South Buffalo.

Along with the fentanyl, 15 kilos of heroin and 11 kilos of cocaine were recovered. A total of five people have been indicted, four from the Buffalo area, and charged with intent to distribute.
