The Erie County Sheriff has reported the arrest of five people in the Village of Springville, on an assortment of narcotics and child endangerment charges.
Three separate searches uncovered heroin, cocaine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia inside multiple residences. The searches were based on information received from the Narcotics Tip Line and the work of the Narcotics Division.
Melinda Dearmyer, 41, of Ashford, is charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance and possession of a hypodermic instrument.
Ashley MacDonald, 36, of Springville, is charged with two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance, two counts of acting in a manner to injure a child less than 17, three separate counts of criminal possession of drug paraphernalia, unlawful possession of marijuana, and controlled substance in non-original container.
Justin Prouty, 19, of Springville, is charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance. Prouty is currently out on bail for a drug charge from February 15, and is awaiting sentencing for felony rape charges.
David Smercak, 47, of Springville, is charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance.
Richard Tyma Jr., 46, of Springville, is charged with two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance, three separate counts of Criminal Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, two counts of acting in a manner to injure a child less than 17, unlawful possession of marijuana, and controlled substance in non-original container.
Immediate relatives were asked to take custody of the children and Erie County Child Protective Services was notified. The investigation is ongoing and additional arrests are expected.
Narcotic Detectives state they have observed a drastic increase in heroin and other opiate use in the areas the Sheriff’s Office patrols.
