Orchard Park Police say a 21-year-old man has been arrested and charged with the murder of his father.The body of 70-year-old Dr. John P. Keenan was discovered in his Orchard Park home at 2 Hillsboro Drive around 9:30 a.m. Monday. His son, Sean Keenan, has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder.
During a news briefing Tuesday morning, Orchard Park Police said they were called to the home to check on John Keenan's welfare. The son also lived at the Hillsboro address.
Police Chief Mark Pacholec says officers responded to 70-year-old John Keenan's Hillsboro Drive home Monday morning to check on his welfare. Pacholec says police found Keenan deceased in the home.
"It's an ongoing investigation. Further charges may come into play," Pacholec said at a news briefing Tuesday.
Pacholec says his department has had previous encounters with Sean Kennan at the home before, though he does not have an arrest record. He is being held at the Erie County Holding Center and is due back in Orchard Park Town Court for a felony hearing on Friday.
Police say John Kennan's wife, Sean's mother, was out of town at the time.
An online search of the Hillsboro address shows the home, in an affluent area of Orchard Park, is up for sale.
John Keenan was a professor of higher education. He is listed as the founder and president and professor of The Institute for Leadership and Global Education (ILGE). Keenan's biography on LinkedIn shows an extensive background in higher education. He was also the executive president and CEO at The Council on Employee Responsibilities and Rights (CERR) and Founder and President at Association on Employment Practices and Principles (AEPP)
His biography also states Keenan served as a visiting professor of Visiting Professor - School of Business at Southern Oregon University, Dean, School of Leadership and Human Development, and Director, MS in Leadership Degree Program at St. Bonaventure University, Associate Professor of Management and Founder/Director of Leadership Programs at University of Wisconsin-Madison, United States International University, San Jose State University, Santa Clara University.
A LinkedIn paragraph states "Dr. Keenan has been presenting leadership, team building, and high performance workshops, seminars, and providing consulting services to organizations throughout the world. He brings to his position over 30 years of experience and is internationally recognized as an organizational psychologist and as a leader in the design and development of leadership and management educational programs."
