Arrest made in Allentown shooting

An arrest has been made in a shooting early Thursday outside a popular Allentown bar. Police say Deverick Petty, 20, of Andover Avenue in Buffalo, has been charged with first degree assault, attempted first-degree assault and criminal possession of a weapon.

The incident occurred outside the Old Pink on Allen Street around 2:30 a.m.  The 30-year-old victim was taken to ECMC, where he had surgery this morning.  He is in critical condition but is expected to survive.

Police Commissioner Daniel Derenda says investigators believe the man was an innocent bystander.

"There was a domestic incident that took place down the street that resulted in a couple of shots being fired," Derenda said.  "The victim got hit by a stray bullet."

The name of the victim has not been released.  He is described by police as a 30-year-old man from Depew.

Derenda said officers were able to recover the handgun used in the shooting.
