Death of Jamestown toddler ruled a homicide

The death of a 16-month-old Jamestown girl has been ruled a homicide. Police in the city were interviewing relatives and friends of the child, who died Wednesday night. The toddler was identified Friday as Nayla J. Hodnett.

The girl's mother brought her to the emergency room at WCA Hospital. She was then taken to Women and Children's Hospital in Buffalo, where she died.  Her death was ruled a homicide due to blunt force trauma after an autopsy.

The girl lived with her mother on Newland Avenue with a 3-year-old sibling. That child has been removed from the home by Child Protective Services. Jamestown Police say the mother's boyfriend occasionally stayed at the home. No one has been taken into custody.

Anyone with information is asked to call Jamestown Police at 483-7537.
