An Erie County grand jury has indicted Bernard Grucza in connection with the death of Toys R Us assistant manager Laurence Wells. The 35-year-old Wells was found stabbed in the office of the Hamburg toy store across from the McKinley Mall in late June. Police say DNA from a baseball cap found at the scene linked Grucza to the crime.
Grucza, 38, of Elma was a loss prevention officer for the retailer. Shortly after the murder, he was seen on camera outside the store consoling his co-workers.
Wells was stabbed in the shoulder and abdomen in his office in the early morning of June 29. He died at Mercy Hospital. Hamburg Police say they believe Grucza went to the store with the intention of killing Wells.
Grucza is charged with second degree murder. He is being held without bail at the Erie County Holding Center and is expected to appear in State Supreme Court within ten days.
