An admitted violent criminal is off the streets. Antoine Garner was sentenced to 18 years in prison in three separate cases in Erie County Court Tuesday morning.Garner, 26, had pleaded guilty to several charges including strangulation, assault, rape, and two counts of robbery. Before sentencing, Garner said he took responsibility for his actions and he apologized to his family.
Attorney Joseph Agro says he and his client are pleased with the sentence.
"This has been a long experience for this young man," Agro said. "I think that there's a sense of relief that this is over with today."
Garner was named a "person of interest" but was never charged in the disappearance and death of Amanda Wienckowski. Her naked frozen body was found in a garbage tote near Garner's home on Buffalo's East Side in 2008.
Prosecutors say Garner raped and impregnated a 16-year-old girl in the same month that Wienckowski disappeared.
