Former teacher convicted of rape on the run

A former South Buffalo Charter School teacher convicted of rape several years ago  is apparently on the run.

A warrant was issued Thursday for 34-year-old Cara Dickey, who remains on parole for her former conviction. A New York State corrections official says Dickey apparently removed an ankle monitoring device and her whereabouts are not known.

Dickey was released from prison in February 2012 after serving a sentence for having an inappropriate sexual relationship with a then 14-year-old male student.

Cara Dickey sentenced in Erie County Court in 2009

Dickey was sentenced in April of 2009.  On the day of her sentencing a tearful Dickey told State Supreme Court Justice John Michalski she was sorry, taking full responsibility for her actions.

According to reports, parole officers indicated they had information Dickey might be involved with another underage male.
