A Buffalo man is behind bars, charged with possessing and selling firearms.
Twenty-three-year-old Kareem "Decatur" Howard faces numerous felony gun counts for his allegedly selling the weapons in the Riverside section of the city near the Kenmore line. Nine guns were seized.
Howard is charged with criminal possession of a weapon and criminal sale of a firearm. He also faces possible federal charges.
Police Commissioner Daniel Derenda says the suspect allegedly transported the weapons from the Decatur, Georgia area.
At a news conference at Police headquarters Wednesday afternoon, Mayor Byron Brown praised the significant roles played by Buffalo Police, State Police, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.
"[They sent] a strong message to others who were involved in this kind of illegal activity that law enforcement is watching, law enforcement will work together, and it's just a matter of time, if you're doing this, before you get caught," Brown said.
The investigation leading to Howard's arrest began six months ago. Police set up undercover buys between March 22 and June 1 from a parking lot on Blum Street.
The mayor says so far this year, police have seized 325 guns.
