As of Sunday afternoon, more than 17,000 customers in Southern Ontario were still waiting for Hydro One and PowerStream crews to restore their electricity.Lights and heat have been out since the region was hit by freezing rain on Friday. At the height of the ice storm more than 100-thousand customers were left shivering in the dark as ice-laden tree branches pulled down power lines.
By Saturday morning, over 40,000 customers were still without power, and the utilities said they expected to have most, if not all, of their customers reconnected by late in the day. That plan was delayed as melting ice falling from trees onto hydro lines caused some additional outages.
On Sunday, Hydro One said all available technicians were around the clock to turn power back on.
