Dayton, Ohio's The Noah Wotherspoon Band delighted a sold-out crowd at the second WBFO Buffalo Blues Bash of the year Saturday night in the WNED|WBFO Studios.Using his sunburst Stratocaster, the charismatic and talented Wotherpoon quickly won over the hundreds in attendance with his virtuoso guitar playing. The band played a number of songs from their latest album, Mystic Mud.
Wotherspoon received the Best Guitarist Award at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis this year and the young trio, which includes Rob Thaxton on bass and Brian Aylor on drums, placed second in the finals.
Kimberly from Amherst was attending her first Blues Bash. She said it won't be her last.
"It was fantastic. They [Noah Wotherspoon Band] were awesome. I bought their CD. I'm a fan," said Kimberly.
Opening the night's festivities was Buffalo's own Jack Civiletto, a veteran songwriter and performer whose repertoire includes several musical styles, including blues, pop, rock, country and gospel. Civiletto's hour-long set set the tone for a great night of music.
"I loved the mix with the older, more traditional first band and the younger headliner. It goes to show how much variety you can find within the genre," said Paul Williams of Buffalo, who calls himself a "blues junkie."
The Blues Bash has been a huge success for the public radio broadcaster, with sold-out shows becoming the norm. Previous headliners have included the Selwynn Birchwood Band and The Ghost Town Blues Band.
