Bronze sculpture brings a touch of 'Eden' to Elmwood

Mike Desmond/wbfo news

There is a new attraction on the Elmwood Strip. Judith Shea's massive bronze sculpture "Eden" was unveiled on Wednesday.

The public art has been installed in a flower garden along the Cultural Walk of Fame at the triangle of Elmwood, Bidwell and Potomac. The work is a gift from AT&T and donated from the corporate art collection.

"For this body of work, I would say it's Rodin," Shea said when asked about other artists who may have influenced the piece.

"In fact, there's one piece around this time, a little bit later, I call post-Balzac, which was an homage to his work."

Mayor Brown says AT&T had agreed to give the city something from the corporate collection and the company let the City Arts Commission pick which artwork it wanted and "Eden" was chosen.
