Millions have enjoyed the comedy of Joan Rivers for decades on television, but comedy was only intended to support her while she launched her Broadway career. Rivers died Thursday at the age of 81. Anthony Chase recalls seeing her on Broadway, as well as many local stages.
Also, not all good theater is in the downtown Theater District. Frank Galati's adaptation of the John Steinbeck novel "The Grapes of Wrath" is at the Manny Fried Theater on Great Arrow. And the musical comedy "The Drowsy Chaperone" can be seen at MusicalFare Theater in Amherst.
