Eight skilled classical guitarists from around the world will be competing in Buffalo over the next four days. They have been selected to compete in the 2014 JoAnn Falletta International Guitar Concerto Competition, which begins Wednesday in the WNED-TV studios.The eight musicians will be vying for the chance to win $14,000 and the opportunity to perform at Carnegie Hall. WBFO'S Eileen Buckley spoke with Buffalo artistic director and international guitar performer Michael Andriaccio, who will serve as one of the judges.
The semifinals of the biennial competition can be heard Wednesday and Thursday nights starting at 7:30 p.m. on Classical 94.5 WNED. The finals will be held at Kleinhans Music Hall Saturday, June 7 at 7:30 p.m., when the top three contestants perform with JoAnn Falletta and the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra.
