Buffalo residents are encouraged to attend a public hearing Wednesday night to provide input for the revitalization of Broderick Park.
Mayor Byron Brown is hosting the public hearing to explain the city's proposed master plan for the park which is located at a historic Underground Railroad site.
“That we can make Broderick Park not only a national, but an international destination because of its historic place as a site on the Underground Railroad,” said Mayor Brown.
Mayor Brown is hosting the first of two hearings at the Belle Center Wednesday evening. Broderick Park is located at the foot of West Ferry Street along the Niagara River.
The city has set aside over $1-million for the revitalization project to create a number of new features and restructuring.
“Plans for the park will be an amphitheater, performance area, restructured parking, and new family gathering space and a waterfront promenade," said Brown.
The restructuring would also create better access to the waterfront in that section of the West Side of the city.
Buffalo Niagara Riverkeeper has been working closely with the city and Friends of Broderick Park. It is another area of the city's waterfront that has remained underdeveloped.
“Broderick Park that for many years as essentially not gotten the attention it should have received,” said Brown.
Once public comment is complete, the city hopes to begin work sometime this year.
Wednesday night's public hearing begins at 6’o’clock at The Belle Center on the West Side.
A second public hearing is set for this June.
