Rainy Friday weather in Buffalo

A mix of weather conditions will move over the region Friday and Saturday.

Rain, that will cause Lake Erie waters to rise, will continue through  Friday afternoon.  But it will turn very windy, with Lake Effect snows moving into parts of the region.

National Weather Service Meteorologist Tom Paone at the Airport Weather Station said conditions will take a dicey turn as we move through the day.

"Later on this afternoon, the winds will be switching around to the southwest and really be picking up, especially near the Lakeshore.  So that is really going to be our main concern today," said Paone.

The National Weather Service has issued a Lakeshore Flood Warning from 3 p.m. until 11 p.m. Friday. The warning effects Erie and Chautauqua Counties.

Forecasters say they expect a rapid rise of water levels along Eastern Lake Erie reaching up to eight feet, which is flood stage.  Peak water levels are expected Friday night.   The high water levels combine with waves of over 14-feet will cause flooding along the shores of Lake Erie.

Route 5-near Hamburg is expected to experience flooding as well as Hoover Beach and Sunset Bay.

A high wind warning has also been issued for  Erie, Niagara, Cattaraugus and Chautauqua Counties from 3 p.m. until midnight Saturday.  Winds could gust up to 60-miles an hour.  The strong winds have the potential of knocking down trees and power lines.

A Lake Effect Snow advisory will also be posted from six tonight for Southern Erie, Chautauqua and Cattaraugus Counties.  It will remain in effect until 5 p.m. Saturday.  One to three inches of snow is expected in the advisory areas.
