Local students get pop education in "Live...Starring You!"

Pop culture and pop stars are nothing new, nor is media coverage of them.
Here in Western New York, a veteran journalist and teacher has turned his experience into an educational program that helps students train their journalism skills while meeting some of today's top celebrities.

At Mount St. Mary Academy in Tonawanda, students have an opportunity to do just that.  It's a program called "Live... Starring You!"  It was created by longtime freelance journalist, author and teacher Tim O'Shei.

While the girls enjoy the opportunity to meet celebrities up close and personal, O'Shei notes there's also a lesson to be taught.  The girls learn about the life of a celebrity off the spotlight.  While not everyone sympathizes with a celebrity's off-stage life, O'Shei wants his girls to see that it's not all glamour and parties.  There are also many hours of micro-managed activities behind the scenes and very little privacy.

You can learn more about "Live...Starring You!" at the school's web site.  The direct link to the program page is  http://www.mt-st-marys.org/live-starring-you.
