Old man winter found his way back to Buffalo delivering a well-overdue blast of blustery conditions to the region.
A winter weather advisory will remain posted until 7 p.m. Friday for Northern Erie, Niagara, Genesee and Orleans Counties.
The heaviest snow fell in the metro Buffalo region. About six inches of snow has fallen. But National Weather Service Meteorologist Jim Mitchell tells us it wasn't the snow -- but strong, gusty winds that created blustery conditions.
"Six inches of snow for this area is not a big deal in a day, we've obviously seen much worse it is the winter wonder. It is the winds, the winds are what is causing the main problems with this," said Mitchell.
The snowy conditions will continue through Friday evening.
Friday's metro Buffalo storm was not a lake effect event, but lake snows will now begin to effect the Southern Tier region.
A Lake Effect snow warning in effect is in effect until 6 p.m. Saturday for Chautauqua and Cattaraugus Counties.
A Lake Effect Snow warning is also posted for Southern Erie and Wyoming Counties until 1'o'clock Saturday afternoon.
City of Buffalo plows are out in full-force Friday working to clear snow and icy from the streets.
Buffalo Public Works Commissioner Steven Stepniak tells WBFO News the windy weather made it a challenge for street crews.
"When you have 40 mile an hour winds and snow, it makes it very difficult because it just keeps covering the roadways that you been down, but we've been through these challenges before and we knew how to attack that was to keep consistent on the roadway," said Stepniak.
Stepniak urges city residents to obey alternate parking rules.
