Congresswoman Slaughter boldly visits Occupy Buffalo

A member of Western New York's Congressional delegation visited the Occupy Buffalo movement Wednesday afternoon.

WBFO'S Eileen Buckley said Western New York Congresswoman Louise Slaughter accepted the movement's invitation.

Members of Occupy Buffalo greeted the congresswoman as she approached Niagara Square in downtown Buffalo.

"We are delighted that you decided to come to Buffalo to talk with us and to meet with us," said member of Occupy Buffalo.

"Yes, absolutely," Congresswoman Slaughter.

"I started my whole political life this way...I ran for Congress because we were trying to save some woods," said Slaughter.

Slaughter praised the Occupy members for their commitment. She then discussed several items on her Washington agenda, including the fight against antibiotics  the U.S. meat supply and better armor to protect us soldiers.

Slaughter also took questions from Occupy Buffalo members that ranged from the high unemployment rate to corporate welfare.

Brian Trzeciaek is with Occupy Buffalo movement.  WBFO News asked him it was unprecedented to have a congress person come into Buffalo's Occupy space?

"Definitely.  We've been reaching out to some, but it happened very quickly,"

WBFO News asked Slaughter if it was a political risk to appear with Occupy members--

"No, these are my constituents, these are citizens.  I seriously believe they have changed the debate," said Congresswoman Slaughter.

Slaughter said she believes the Occupy movement made a difference in Tuesday election results nationwide.
