Local black bear population on the rise

By Chris Jamele

Buffalo, NY – A growth spurt in the local black bear population is causing an increase in the number of bear sightings.

The Buffalo News reports that as many as five hundred bears are making Western New York their home. Wildlife experts encourage residents to secure their garbage containers and to be sure to keep outdoor eating areas and barbecue grills clean to prevent attracting bears.

If a bear enters your yard, it should never be approached.
