EPA investigates equipment failure at Tonawanda Coke

Tonawanda, NY – The Tonawanda Coke plant is under investigation again. This time environmental officials looking into equipment failure.

EPA spokeswoman Mary Mears tells WBFO'S Eileen Buckley it caused 20-foot flames to shoot from a small stack and sent clouds of black smoke into nearby neighborhoods on Wednesday.

Earlier this year, the EPA and DEC issued several actions against Tonawanda Coke for a number of environmental violations.
